As for us, we do not have any preferences for a rental car provider, as long as they can offer the most affordable price and a good value for money. Below is the photo of the car provided to us in Seville – Alfa Romeo Giulietta! I was quite excited as I’ve never drove an Alfa Romeo before.
We were charged an amount of €67.82 for 4 days rental. It was counted as 4 days because we collected it on Friday 11:00 and returned it on Monday 19:00. In renting a car, 1 day rent is equal up to a maximum of 24-hours. So for example with a 3-days rental, we would have to return it within 72 hours upon collection. So, to account for a 3-days rental,We should return it by the late Monday 11:00. However since our flight back to London was scheduled to be later in the evening, we decided to extend the rental duration up to 82 hours. Hence it became a 4-days rental. But still, it was pretty cheap with an equivalent of €17 per day!
If you are booking a car online, be aware of all the possible disclaimers on the company website. Sometime the prices advertised are not the actual sum. You may end up having to pay more money upon collection. These disclaimers are quite deceiving. So please make sure you’ve read everything on the page before confirming any transaction.
Upon collection, you may need to know about the fuel policy. With Budget Car Rental, there are 2 fuel options offered:
- Fuel Plans – pay in advance for a full tank and bring back an empty tank.
- Self Refuelling – pay in advance for a full tank and bring back a full tank and show a refuelling receipt to get the refund of your advance payment. Failure to return a full tank will cause your advance payment to be deducted accordingly as per Budget’s refuelling service charge.
Most of the car rental companies would have these similar policies, but they may term it differently.
For this car, we decided to go with self refuelling and paid a refundable €76.07 (full tank) in advance. We later refuelled the car on the last hours before returning it. At the end of the day it only cost us €58.00 of fuel after 4 days including all the mileage we spent to Cordoba & Granada . It was quite a saving.
Other important aspects you need to consider are; the car mileage limit. For the car mileage, some companies may only offer limited mileage with a boarder limitation you’re allowed to go to, but there are also many who offers unlimited mileage across countries. Ours was an unlimited mileage so we can go far without being charge for extra miles. If you choose a limited mileage, you have to find out the limit and the charges for extra mileage and then work out your cost & decide. There might be an option of collecting the car at one location and return it at a different location. However this may likely cost you double the price. Make sure you compare all the options you have before making up your mind.
Last but not least, an insurance is the most important must-have when renting a car. The basic insurance coverage is normally included in the rental charge. If you wish to, you may upgrade the coverage to a more comprehensive package which normally will be offered to you upon the collection of the car. It may cause you an additional cost per day. Make sure you fully understand the policy that you’re signing up for, especially if you go with the basics. Get to know the insured coverage and its limitation. You may also required to add another additional cost per day upon declaring more than 1 driver. However with the Giuletta, we decided to take a risk with the basic insurance coverage.
I enjoyed my driving in Andalucia. The highways were perfect with not many cars on the road and no toll charges! I would say that it was a smooth drive with the Giulietta and I’m happy to recommend Budget Car Rental for its satisfactory service.
