On the last 2 nights we were in Venice, we decided to stay nearer to the San Marco area as we wanted to experience Venice at night in the very heart of Venice.
Our browsing on booking.com finally gave us a few options. As usual, we listed several of the most-affordable hotels and made further decision based on other factors such as; the distance to the central location, accessibility and most importantly the rating and reviews by the previous guests.
The process took us to a final option – Stars of Venice. What a blessing, besides the affordable price, the Star of Venice was just 300 meter from Piazza San Marco – a very central location. Who would get a better deal?
When Mr. Leo told me we’ve arrived at the entrance of the building, I have to admit that I was very sceptical about the unfinished refurbishment of the ground floor and the fact that the lift was quite small.
As the lift opened, Francesca and her father was waiting for me there. It took me only seconds from Mr Leo’s to Francesca’s warm welcome. Mr. Leo left right away and he clearly was not expecting any tips! Francesca was very friendly. She’s a lady with bright personality. She showed me the room and explained several information about the facilities and the security of the place. She also provided a map of Venice touristic area with a red circular marking written as ‘HOME’, indicating the location of the Stars of Venice. I was very happy to see the room. It really feels like home. And what a dream comes true for me to have a room with a personal window facing the canal of Venice!
On the table near the window, some homemade panettones baked by Francesca’s mother was served as our welcome treats.
I was planning to pay Francesca with my debit card. Unfortunately, her card machine was not working that day. So Francesca herself accompanied me around the corners and alleys nearby, helping me to find an ATM machine. According to Francesca, her family had just started the business and they only had 3 rooms operating at the moment. That was probably the reason why we managed to get a very good deal with this accommodation. With what they have, I believe they’ll get those rooms fully booked for weeks and weeks to come.
I must say we had a very pleasant stay in the Stars of Venice, and the map she provided came out very handy when it comes to finding our way home. The only thing in the room that I was not too fond of, was the child portrait on the wall. Please don’t get me wrong, there’s no haunted feeling or anything of that sort about it. It’s just a matter of my personal preference.
I would definitely recommend this place for an authentic Venetian stay. You may find my review of this place here. At the time of writing this post, the review was already viewed for more than 2000 times. I hope Francesca is making a good business out of her beautiful place.
